Synopsis is our client’s self-built calorie tracker web app that makes nutrition tracking social and effortless. It logs meals with AI from a photo or short description, calculates personalized TDEE/BMR, and keeps users on track with insights and friend features.

The challenge

Tom had a calorie-tracking web app that proved the idea worked. But being desktop-only, it capped engagement and couldn’t fully fit into users’ daily lives — growth was stalling.

Work process

Discovery

We carried out a usability and market audit, comparing competitors’ features and positioning. Through user survey and research-based user flows, we identified pain points, validated opportunities, and uncovered areas for improvement that would create more value for end users.

UX & Technical Alignment

Based on the research, we built detailed user flows and wireframes. Together with the client, we confirmed the technical feasibility, budget alignment, and feature priorities — ensuring the solution would meet both business goals and user needs.

UI Design & Handoff

Our team designed a complete interface system, covering all states, micro-interactions, and flows. We prepared detailed design documentation to minimize errors during development and guarantee every detail was accounted for.

Development

We implemented the approved designs into a working product, setting up a secure and scalable architecture. Frontend, backend, and all necessary integrations (APIs, data layers, third-party services) were built following best practices for performance and compliance. Continuous testing and iterative demos kept quality high and delivery on track.

Launch & Ongoing Support

We deployed the product into production with monitoring and performance checks. After release, we optimized based on live user data, provided timely updates, and ensured the platform remained secure, reliable, and adaptable to new needs. Our ongoing support keeps the solution evolving alongside the client’s growth.

The solution

Our solution attacked the logging chore head-on by enabling users to auto-log meals instantly from a single photo using advanced image recognition. To make the process fun and engaging, we integrated gamifying elements like cool animations and smart, personalized reminders. We then amplified motivation through social accountability, with features that prompted users by showing friends' activity, such as "Josh already posted their breakfast, take a look!"
